RE-WIRING is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Re-form the Norm at the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk, Poland. This thought-provoking exhibition delves into how standards are created and tailored, questioning their criteria and implications, particularly regarding work and protective clothing for women.
The exhibition, running from March 12 to April 14, 2025, is a multidisciplinary project exploring the long-standing issue of ill-fitting workwear for women. Originating from the experiences of former female workers at the Gdańsk Shipyard, Re-form the Norm examines the current conditions of women in the maritime industry, a field traditionally dominated by men. The project scrutinizes how suits, jackets, and gloves—designed predominantly for male bodies—often fail to meet the basic needs of female workers.
By highlighting the discrepancies between standardized designs and women’s bodies, Re-form the Norm addresses broader gender inequalities in design—ranging from urban planning to transportation and everyday objects. The exhibition features detailed analyses of garments, their functionality, and artistic interpretations of discomfort, risk, and dignity in the workplace.
The project is led by an exceptional team:
- Aneta Bursiewicz – Clothing Designer
- Aneta Lehmann – Curator and Educator
- Anna Miler – Women’s History Researcher and Social Activist

The exhibition will also feature the premiere of a publication summarizing the project and a guided thematic tour of the STOCKYARD exhibition at the European Solidarity Centre.
