On April 9th, the RE-WIRING project marked a significant milestone with the launch of a publication summarizing the process behind the RE-FORM THE NORM exhibition, currently on view in the winter garden of the European Solidarity Centre. The event gathered experts and advocates to reflect on how norms are created—and how they can be reshaped to foster a more inclusive maritime industry.
The discussion returned to the core questions that shaped the project from the beginning:
How is a standard formed? What do trouser length and pocket depth reveal about societal structures? Are current norms genuinely safe and comfortable for everyone?
The maritime sector, still heavily influenced by male-oriented standards, served as a lens through which broader issues of gender, equity, and inclusion were explored. The event offered a space for collective reflection and a push toward practical change.

Guest speakers included:
- Magdalena Jabłonowska, WISTA Poland
- Izabela Klonowska-Hincka, INSPIRA – Association of Women in the Maritime Industry
- Jolanta Szydłowska, Plenipotentiary of the Pomeranian Voivode for Equal Treatment
- Natasza Kosakowska-Berezecka, University of Gdańsk
The conversation was moderated by Aneta Lehmann, curator of the RE-FORM THE NORM exhibition.
Organized by the University of Gdańsk and the European Solidarity Centre, the event took place under the matronage of INSPIRA – Association of Women in the Maritime Industry, Fahrenheit University Women’s Club, and WISTA Poland.
The evening served as a powerful reminder that norms are not neutral—and that change begins with awareness, dialogue, and solidarity.
