RE-WIRING Consortium Meets in Utrecht to Tackle Gender Power Imbalances

Utrecht, The Netherlands – July 2025

This July, the city of Utrecht will become a hub for cutting-edge research and learning on gender equality as it welcomes participants of the RE-WIRING Summer School and hosts a key Consortium Meeting for the RE-WIRING project.

From 14 to 18 July 2025, the RE-WIRING project will run its Summer School on Gender Equality, bringing together students, researchers, and practitioners to explore persistent gender inequalities across sectors such as education, employment, media, politics, law, and crisis contexts. Rooted in RE-WIRING’s Transformative Equality Approach, the course focuses on fixing institutions rather than “fixing” women and girls, addressing the structural causes behind gendered power imbalances.

With a truly global and interdisciplinary perspective, the course is delivered by lecturers from top universities in Europe and South Africa, representing disciplines including law, psychology, sociology, economics, and gender studies.

Beyond the classroom, participants will have the chance to explore Utrecht, engage in social and cultural activities, and network with leading experts in the field of gender equality.

Immediately following the summer school, from 17 to 18 July, RE-WIRING will hold its Consortium Meeting at Utrecht University, along with an expert group workshop. This high-level gathering will allow consortium partners to assess the project’s progress and align strategies for the next phase of work.

Funded by the EU Horizon Europe programme, RE-WIRING – Realising Girls’ and Women’s Inclusion, Representation and Empowerment – is a groundbreaking initiative working to dismantle gendered power hierarchies and promote sustainable institutional change across Europe and beyond.

Since its launch, the project has produced impactful outputs including:

  • A toolkit of better practices to enhance women’s representation
  • A taxonomy of gendered power hierarchies
  • The RE-WIRING Transformative Equality Approach and Methodology Template
  • Strategic publications on policy gaps, gender bias in reform, and crisis response

By integrating academic research, policy innovation, and civic engagement, RE-WIRING offers a forward-looking agenda to reshape systems and promote equality at all levels.

📅 When? 14–18 July 2025 (Summer School), 17–18 July 2025 (Consortium Meeting)
