The RE-WIRING Summer School 2025 – Gender (In)Equality: an Interdisciplinary Transformative Equality Approach – began on Monday, July 14th in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Hosted at Utrecht University, this one-week programme brings together 25 participants from 15 countries, including Brazil, Ghana, Japan, Libya, and Switzerland, among others. The group reflects a rich mix of academic and professional backgrounds, spanning fields such as law, sociology, journalism, education, gender studies, psychology, ecofeminism, and more.
The Summer School is part of the Horizon Europe project RE-WIRING and is centered around its Transformative Equality Approach (TEA), an innovative interdisciplinary framework that combines institutional, symbolic, and experiential dimensions of gender inequality. Throughout the week, participants are engaging with themes such as gendered power hierarchies, inclusive policymaking, decolonial research, and intersectional activism.
Led by a team of lecturers from eight European universities, the programme includes interactive sessions, group work, and a visit to the Good Mom/Bad Mum exhibition at Utrecht’s Centraal Museum. The final day will culminate in a high-level expert meeting, where student groups will present their proposals for transformative change.
The Summer School aims to create an inclusive and collaborative learning space, encouraging participants to share diverse perspectives and co-create knowledge. It’s not only a training programme but also a platform for building alliances for gender equality across disciplines and regions.
